Friday the 22nd was my good friend Jessie's birthday! We wanted to make this day really special for her and surprises around every corner. Hense the my little pony cake! She never expected that! I had enlisted in all my other friends to help because we were on somewhat of a time crunch.
So here it is... my first success on getting a theme cake out of the pan without it breaking in half. Probably because I spent the first half hour making sure every inch was covered in flour.
Kelly and I spent about a half hour trying to get our frosting right. We could seem to get it thick enough! It worked out in the end but we learned a great lesson on making frosting... don't melt the butter when making buttercream.
Ashlyn found great joy in helping us with our cake. Let see, it was about a half hour until the party started, we had just started decorating it, Ashlyn was screaming so we let her get up to the table, and she helped by putting all the balloons in the frosting (over and over again), then I got up to put something in the sink, and she climbed into my chair and grabbed the butter knife and cut right into our cake. We had to do some reconstructive surgery and everything turned out just fine. Lets just say it was a stressful moment, so stressful in fact that I thought I was going to go into preterm labor.
Left to right... Kelly, Rebecca, and Jane
Thank goodness for the help of all my friends or I would not have been able to finish everything before the party.
I'm pretty proud of our work here, especially for doing it in about 45 min!
Jessie, the birthday girl!
For dinner we had gourmet hotdogs on the grill, and chips. Yum!!!
Ashlyn sure enjoyed the food, she ate and entire hot dog, and 3/4 of a bun. For Ashlyn that's great, she's had some issues eating enough lately!
Lance, Gabe, Ashlyn, Dallin, Dallin's brother, and Emery!
For her party we played minute to win it games. It was actually really fun with this large of a group.
This first one they had to use the spaghetti to pick up 6 penne pasta's without breaking the spaghetti or dropping the pasta's.
Unfortunately the boys won this one! Of course we played guys against girls.
This one was against me and Dallin's brother. This one we had to stack up nuts using a chop stick!
He won by like 2 sec. Bummer!!! But there was some question on the start and stop on the timer! That's 2 for the boys team!
Rebecca and Steve had to reach into the nylons and pull out a penny from each side and then get their hands out first.
This was a girls win!
This game was probably the hardest. They had to blow a deck of cards off these salad dressings until the last card!
Jane and Ben didn't do it with their 3 chances.
Kelly won this one for the girls! That's 2 for 2!
Gabe and I had to blow up the balloons and then push the cup to the other end of the table without going off. Gabe won this one:(
Jessie and Dallin had to stack 3 golf balls on top of one another and they had to stay for 3 sec.
The winner is clear on this one!
So before this one we were tied 3 for 3. With this game they had to stack 6 dice and they had to stay for 3 sec. I think it's better to use the popsicle sticks but we didn't have any so we used spoons. Rebecca won this one by a long shot. In the end the girls took the victory for the minute to win it challenge.
Gabe claimed that he won because the rules didn't say how they had to be stacked. So he had 3 stacked then 2, then 1! What a funny guy, always finds a good excuse.
This was the guys solution because somehow all of us forgot the candles. So creative!
Happy Birthday Jessie!
