Classy Room Makeover...

We were able to stay at my parents house for the last month and a half while Gabe was doing his internship with Spencer, which went really well. During that time I had to be busy with something...so I convinced my parents to let me do 2 big projects with them. The first one we had started last August in the basement. I had designed a whole wall of built-ins and Dad and I finished the base of it back in August. Then we were able to finish building them while I was at home this winter. It was a fun project. Dad and I spent A LOT of quality time together as this project took a lot more time then we thought. One thing that I learned was that I LOVE power tools. Dad taught me all of his little tricks and now I'm pretty sure I'm an expert at DIY projects:) OK, maybe not an expert but I sure enjoyed learning so much from my dad, who is a talented and meticulous craftsman. It turned out great! We were able to get it all painted except for the last coat:( So I have some pictures up to that point. I guess I'm just going to have to make another trip home soon to finish what I started.

BEDROOM MAKEOVER

The second project was my Grandma's old room. It was slightly outdated and in desperate need of a little TLC. It all started with mom saying that she needed my help buying a headboard for the new bed that was going in their. I told her that I could make her a headboard for a fraction of the cost and it would look amazing. She was hesitant at first but I kept on her because I have been aching to do a design project. I really like how it turned out. There are a few items that were left unfinished that you might notice. The frames without pictures in them, the drapes are not mounted yet, and the white euro pillows next to the orange ones are really suppose to be orange. We were waiting for them to come in the mail. Oh, and I am planning on finding a new lamp shade for the floor lamp. But other than that I am in love with this room now. I think that it is classy, comfortable and relaxing. My next project is going to be the bedroom downstairs. I can't wait!!!

I love mixing old with new when I design. This room is full of history, from the pictures in the frames, to my grandma's old dresser set, to my grandparents old trunk. I feel like it gives a room the feeling of being home, a feeling of tradition, while the new items provide a refreshing, relaxing atmosphere!

There are many things in this room that I am in love with, this chair and side table are two of them. We don't have a lot of shopping options to buy furniture so we ended up buying a lot of items from Pier One. They have many unique pieces full of character and personality.
